How to Use this Site
I have chosen to publish this material in the form of a blog for several reasons. First, I can devote only a small part of each day to its cultivation, and, as I have a great quantity of material to share, I would rather not wait until I have written up all of my ideas before making them available. Second, I do not even know how or where I would set up a permanent site, so a free blog is the most convenient option. Third, I like having the possibility for comments, as I consider much of what I write open to discussion, and I publish my ideas here precisely because I would like some dialogue.
This website has a dual focus- teaching and research. First, you can find my syllabi among the pages listed at the top right. In my postings I will walk you through them, offering some thoughts on how to execute them and where to find the necessary images. You can find all previous postings on the first course for which I provide such commentary under the Categories at the bottom right, under “Early Medieval Art Survey.”
I also share my thoughts on teaching art history, on teaching early medieval art, and on the training of graduate students in early medieval art history. I categorize these postings under “Teaching Early Medieval Art.”
Although I do not aim for comprehensiveness, I will let you know about new publications as I learn about them, as well as about the digitization of old ones. Finally, I index all postings according to medium or technique, when applicable.
And check out the assortment of useful links on the right. I myself use them in the place of bookmarks.
